Residential-Level Treatment While Living at Home

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Blue bar graphic

Our PHP program expands and enhances the innovative IOP approach to addiction treatment pioneered by Kolmac 50 years ago. When inpatient treatment is not a viable option, outpatient treatment is – and our PHP program offers a full day of treatment for alcohol and/or drug addiction while allowing you to live at home and stay connected to your family and life outside of treatment.

Kolmac PHP: Immersive Treatment While Living At Home

Our evidence-based, data-driven partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for drug, alcohol and gambling addiction are as effective as inpatient treatment, with a big difference: you live at home throughout the whole process, which includes detoxification, PHP treatment program, and continuing outpatient care after the end of your official program.

Compared to residential inpatient treatment, our outpatient PHP programs offer the following advantages:

  • Flexible hours that accommodate your busy schedule.
  • Fast, streamlined admission process allows you to start treatment in one business day.
  • Convenient weekly meetings for loved ones to participate and learn about your recovery.
  • You can live at home during treatment, which means you can not only maintain your commitments, but also practice your new recovery skills where they matter most: in your real life.

Kolmac PHP: Three Phases

PHP at Kolmac includes the three traditional phases of treatment:

Detoxification: Virtual, Home-Based

Addiction Treatment: PHP

Continuing Care: Outpatient

In addition, our addiction treatment programs include integrated psychiatric services to treat common challenges and co-occurring mental health disorders like depression, anxiety and insomnia. Our recovery program integrates the three phases of treatment to facilitate a smooth transition from one to the next, and our clinical team ensures consistency of care across all phases of treatment.

Addiction Treatment: PHP Basics/Overview

The partial hospitalization (PHP) phase of treatment lasts 6-8 weeks and includes 30-40 group sessions. In addition to group sessions, which are the core of PHP treatment, patients receive individual medical/clinical care, case management/care coordinator services, medication-assisted treatment when indicated, medication management when needed, and mental health support for co-occurring disorders when present. We also encourage family participation in our Kolmac Family Groups and encourage patients to attend peer/community support meetings during PHP as frequently as possible.

Group Therapy: A Core Component of Addiction Treatment at Kolmac

The benefits of group therapy in addiction treatment are well-established both through scientific research and decades of anecdotal reports. We offer 50 group therapy sessions in various convenient locations, which reduces barriers to care for you and all Kolmac patients.

Why Group Therapy?

Humans need one another. We evolved in groups, and we survive best in groups. It’s part of our biological makeup. When we isolate ourselves and refuse to allow others to help us, we often resort to negative, unhealth coping mechanisms. That’s why group therapy helps: it keeps us connected to other humans, which is essential not only for addiction treatment, but also our overall health, happiness, and well-being.

Evidence-based benefits of group therapy include:

  • Structure and peer support to continue recovery after rehab
  • Connection and community to reduce loneliness and isolation
  • Inspiration and hope from hearing the stories and experiences of recovery peers
  • Learning, developing, and practicing healthy coping strategies with/from recovery peers
  • Learning how to live well when you’re in the real world
  • Knowledge about the neurobiological, social, and psychological components of addiction
  • A deep sense of unity, belonging and family among recovery peers

Components and topics in group therapy at Kolmac include, but are not limited to:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Relapse prevention
  • Anger management
  • Stress management
  • Nutrition/healthy lifestyle
  • Meditation
  • Mindfulness
  • Healthy relationships
  • Setting boundaries

Continuing Care: Outpatient Treatment

After you stabilize in recovery, you can step down to our outpatient program, which includes:

  • Group Treatment/Therapy/Education
  • Individual Treatment
  • Family Participation
  • Medical Support
  • MAT/Suboxone

Patients can participate in our continuing care/outpatient programs in-person, fully virtual, or in-person /virtual hybrid, depending on need and preference.
