Teen and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Kolmac offers structured adolescent intensive outpatient programs designed for teens who need more clinical support than weekly therapy but do not require inpatient hospitalization. Our teen IOP programs provide multiple sessions per week, combining individual therapy, skills-based group work, family involvement, and psychiatric services within a single coordinated care team.

Programs are available during day and evening hours, with both in-person and virtual options, so adolescents can continue attending school and maintaining family routines while receiving intensive clinical care.

What We Treat

Adolescents often struggle with conditions that can significantly interfere with daily functioning. Our adolescent mental health treatment addresses:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression and mood dysregulation
  • Trauma-related symptoms and PTSD
  • Behavioral and emotional challenges, including ADHD
  • Stress that impacts school, home, or relationships

These concerns can appear in many forms and intensities. Early and appropriate support through adolescent counseling and treatment increases the likelihood of meaningful improvement.

How Teen IOP and Outpatient Therapy Work

We use evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to the developmental needs of adolescents. Teen therapy and teen counseling at Kolmac are designed to help teens understand and manage overwhelming emotions, build healthy coping strategies, strengthen interpersonal and family communication, improve functioning at school and home, and build resilience and long-term wellbeing.

Treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), structured individual therapy, skills-based groups, family involvement, and care coordination with schools and external supports. Our adolescent outpatient programs consider the whole teen, not just symptoms.

Teen PHP and Partial Hospitalization for Adolescents

For adolescents who need a higher level of structure, Kolmac offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Adolescent PHP provides more intensive daily programming than IOP while still allowing teens to return home each evening. This level of care is appropriate for teens stepping down from inpatient or residential treatment, or for those whose symptoms require more support than an intensive outpatient program alone can provide.

Family Therapy and Support for Adolescent Mental Health

Family involvement is a core component of adolescent treatment. Effective teen mental health care engages caregivers in education, communication strategies, and tools to support sustained progress at home. Family therapy sessions help strengthen relationships and equip parents with practical approaches for navigating their teen’s challenges. Peer support and age-appropriate group components help teens develop social skills and connection with others facing similar experiences.

Goals of Adolescent Counseling and Treatment

The primary goals of adolescent mental health treatment are to reduce symptom severity, improve daily functioning and quality of life, strengthen emotional regulation and coping, support academic engagement, and build lasting skills for resilience and self-management. Every treatment plan is individualized to the specific needs, strengths, and circumstances of each teen and their family.

Getting Started

If your teen is struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges, professional evaluation is the first step. A clinical assessment will determine the appropriate level of care and guide a personalized treatment plan.

Kolmac offers flexible treatment options, including virtual and in-person care. Treatment plans are individualized to address each adolescent’s needs while supporting ongoing school and family commitments. Most patients begin structured treatment within one business day of their first call.
