Suicide Prevention Month — Breaking the Silence, Saving Lives

September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, breaking stigma, and reminding our communities that help and hope are always available. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, yet it is also one of the most preventable.

For individuals living with substance use or mental health challenges, the risk of suicide can be even greater. Feelings of hopelessness, isolation, or shame can intensify when people are unsure where to turn for help. That’s why conversations about suicide prevention are so important.

At Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health, we believe that prevention starts with connection. Checking in on loved ones, asking honest questions, and offering nonjudgmental support can make a life-saving difference. You don’t need to have the “perfect” words—just being present matters.

This September, we encourage everyone to:

  • Learn the warning signs — such as withdrawing from others, expressing hopelessness, or sudden changes in mood or behavior.

  • Start conversations — don’t be afraid to ask directly if someone is struggling or having thoughts of suicide.

  • Know the resources — if you or someone you love needs immediate help, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

Suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can create communities where people feel safe, supported, and never alone in their darkest moments.

Kolmac remains committed to supporting recovery and mental wellness, not just during Suicide Prevention Month, but all year long. Because every life matters.
