Mental health treatment for young adults at Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health
Academic demands, early-career uncertainty, shifting relationships, and the transition away from familiar support systems can all compound, affecting how you think, feel, and function day to day.
At Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health, outpatient mental health treatment for young adults is built around that reality. Programs are flexible, available in-person and virtually across the Mid-Atlantic region, and designed to fit around school, work, and the other responsibilities that don’t pause because you’re struggling.
Mental health challenges in young adulthood
Mental health challenges seldom follow a convenient timeline. A period already marked by transitions and stress can exacerbate conditions like anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma-related symptoms for a considerable number of people.
Research reflects this: young adults experience the highest prevalence of mental illness of any adult age group, yet are often the least likely to receive treatment, according to the NIH.
Ages 18 to 25 are also a time of significant transition. Leaving home, starting college or a career, navigating new relationships and responsibilities — pressures like these may not cause mental health conditions. Still, they can make existing ones harder to manage without support.
Getting help is how people build the tools to move forward.
What Kolmac treats for young adults
Mental health disorders in young adulthood are common, varied, and often very responsive to treatment. Kolmac provides outpatient care for the conditions that most frequently affect people in this stage of life:
- Anxiety disorders
- Depression and emotional imbalance
- Trauma-related symptoms and PTSD
- Co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions
- ADHD and behavioral or emotional challenges
- Stress affecting work, school, or relationships
These concerns can appear in many forms and intensities. Early support increases the likelihood of meaningful improvement. Kolmac individualizes every treatment plan to the specific needs, strengths, and circumstances of the person seeking care.
Programs designed to fit your life
We designed our outpatient programs with evening scheduling, telehealth, and flexible formats. This allows everyone we treat to continue with college, work, and their everyday responsibilities while receiving assistance.
Across all programs, treatment approaches include:
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Structured individual therapy
- Skills-based groups
Our programs
Mental health IOP
If your symptoms are significantly affecting your daily life but you don’t need round-the-clock care, mental health IOP at Kolmac may be the right level of support.
The program meets 3 to 4 days per week in evening sessions from 5 to 8 p.m., combining individual therapy, skills-based group work, and psychiatric services within a single coordinated care team. Sessions are available both in-person and virtually, and the program typically runs 10 to 15 weeks, depending on your progress and needs.
Outpatient therapy and counseling
For many people, individual outpatient therapy and counseling are the right place to start. Mental health counseling at Kolmac pairs you with a clinician who gets to know you. Together you’ll work through what’s going on, build healthier responses to it, and develop a clearer sense of how to move forward.
We schedule sessions around your life, and we can shift your treatment plan as you do.
Virtual and telehealth options
Sometimes just getting to the clinic can be an obstacle. Kolmac holds its virtual sessions to the same clinical standards as in-person care and offers day and evening availability.
The flexibility of remote scheduling makes it easier to stay consistent even when life gets complicated.
