Virtual detox and withdrawal management at Kolmac

Withdrawal is one of the most significant barriers to starting treatment. For many people, the concern isn’t whether they need help — it’s whether they can get through the early physical stages safely without checking into a hospital or stepping away from their responsibilities.

Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health’s virtual detox program makes medically supervised withdrawal management possible from home.
A clinical team monitors your progress, manages medications, and provides support throughout the process so that you can complete this phase safely without an inpatient stay.

What is a virtual detox?

Rather than upending your life to enter an inpatient detox program, you can start your treatment in a safe and comfortable way that fits your lifestyle. Consider the advantages of home-based virtual detox compared to traditional inpatient programs:

Detox in your own environment, surrounded by familiar comforts, which can significantly reduce anxiety and make the process more manageable.
Continue meeting your daily responsibilities, including work, family, school, or other commitments, while receiving the care you need.
Stay connected with your support network throughout the process to reduce the isolation that often leads people to give up before real treatment begins.
After detox, you move straight into one of our outpatient programs, providing ongoing support.

How Kolmac’s virtual detox works — step by step

1. Initial virtual assessment

Our medical team conducts a comprehensive virtual assessment to determine the most appropriate detox plan for you.

2. Customized detox plan

We develop a personalized plan tailored to your specific substance use, whether it’s alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or something else.

3. Continuous monitoring

We send prescriptions to your pharmacy or deliver them directly, so you have what you need before withdrawal starts.

4. Smooth transition to treatment

Regular virtual check-ins with our medical team to monitor your progress and make necessary adjustments.

5. Smooth transition to treatment

After detox, you transition directly into one of our outpatient programs, ensuring continuous support and guidance.

Alcohol detox at Kolmac

Alcohol use disorder carries some of the most serious withdrawal risks of any substance. With the supervision of our medical staff, you can safely manage withdrawal symptoms such as tremors, anxiety, and in severe cases, seizures or delirium tremens (DTs) from home.

Our physicians monitor your symptoms throughout the day, prescribe medications, and adjust your plan in real time as you progress.

Opioid detox at Kolmac

Opioid and fentanyl withdrawal can be intensely uncomfortable, and that discomfort is one of the most common reasons people stop trying before proper treatment begins.

Kolmac manages opioid detox with FDA-approved medications, including buprenorphine (Suboxone), which significantly reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings from the earliest stage.

Our physicians initiate and monitor medication-assisted treatment virtually, adjusting dosing as needed throughout the process.

Detox for other substances

Besides alcohol and opioids, this remote detox service can accommodate detox from a wide variety of substances, including:

  • Barbiturates
  • Benzodiazepines (such as Xanax or Valium, with gradual tapering and medical oversight)
  • Cannabis
  • Dextromethorphan
  • GHB
  • Hallucinogens
  • Inhalants
  • Kratom
  • Muscle relaxers
  • Phenibut
  • Sedative hypnotics
  • Stimulants
  • Tianeptine

After detox — transitioning to IOP

Detox is the beginning of your treatment, not the end. Unlike many inpatient programs with limited follow-up care, our virtual detox includes a seamless transition into our substance use IOP or intensive outpatient program (IOP), often on the same day detox ends.

Because the same Kolmac team manages your detox and IOP care, there’s no gap in your care and no need to start over with a new provider.

Frequently asked questions

Not sure where to start? These are the questions we hear most often.

Yes, for qualifying patients. Kolmac’s virtual detox includes medical monitoring and prescription medication management throughout withdrawal, with our clinical team available throughout the day to respond to changes in your symptoms.

Before starting, our healthcare professionals evaluate each patient to determine whether virtual detox is the appropriate level of care.
Virtual detox is appropriate for people who are medically stable enough to be monitored remotely and have a safe home environment. Under ASAM criteria, managing withdrawal at home can be appropriate when your medical history and living situation signal that your symptoms can be safely monitored remotely

Inpatient detox might be a better option for individuals experiencing severe medical complications or lacking a stable living situation. Our admissions team will assess your situation on your first call.
Medications vary depending on the substance. To prevent seizures and reduce symptoms, doctors typically manage alcohol withdrawal with medication. Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is an FDA-approved medication that can treat opioid withdrawal.

Kolmac physicians prescribe and monitor all medications.
Most major insurance plans cover medically supervised detox. Kolmac works with most major insurance providers, and you pay your deductible and co-pay. Kolmac’s treatment is not a covered service by Medicaid or Medicare.
Your individual situation determines this, and the medical team will assess it during your initial evaluation.

Sometimes, we recommend that you have a support person present during the early stages of withdrawal. Our clinical team will discuss this with you before detox begins.
