Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
In 1973, George Kolodner, MD designed and implemented our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), the first of its kind in the country. Since our founding, Kolmac has treated more than 30,000 patients and we continue to provide affordable, flexible and gold-standard treatment today.
How Kolmac IOP Works
Kolmac’s IOP sessions include a combination of group therapy and education. Each group is facilitated by two licensed and/or certified addiction clinicians. In addition to the group sessions, you will meet with a clinician individually at least four times throughout the course of your treatment. Those individual sessions will be partially focused on establishing a treatment plan for you – collaborating to identify what your personal goals are in this process and mapping out a plan for how to achieve them.
Tools and Strategies for Successful Treatment
The education component of Kolmac’s IOP is designed to provide you with a strong foundational understanding of the disease of addiction and to equip you with tools and strategies to utilize in your early recovery.
Expert Medical Support
A hallmark of Kolmac IOP is the integration of medical services. Upon admission to the program you will meet with one of our expert medical staff and have the opportunity to meet with them throughout. Clinicians attend group sessions 2-4 times per week and have designated hours to meet individually with IOP patients as well. They can partner with you to address symptoms directly related to your substance use, as well as those from co-occurring mental health issues, which we know often go hand-in-hand with addiction.
Recovery Is A Family Effort
With the knowledge that addiction is a family disease, we view the participation of family and loved ones as an essential part of our IOP. Friends and loved ones may be under-educated about the disease of addiction and how to best support you in early recovery. By providing education and support for our patients’ loved ones, we increase your ability to be successful in treatment. Family is invited to attend specially designated weekly groups, as well as to meet individually with you and your clinician during your treatment.
IOP Sessions to Meet Your Schedule
Kolmac’s IOP operates seven days a week, and we can get you started at any time. In most locations we offer both daytime and evening options, with the goal to help integrate treatment into your daily life. Daytime programs run from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM and evening programs from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Our program consists of 25-30 sessions in total and is approximately eight weeks long. Initially you will attend five times per week until you begin to stabilize, eventually attending twice a week until you complete the program.
Enhanced Recovery Program
Kolmac also offers an Enhanced Recovery Program (ERP), a specialized IOP track for patients who have struggled with relapse or who have attended treatment previously and require a higher level of support and structure to achieve and maintain abstinence. ERP is a longer program, typically lasting around 12 weeks. It includes additional individual sessions, smaller group sizes, consistent scheduling three times per week, and an increased focus on relapse prevention and involvement in recovery support groups.
