- Addiction is a Family Illness
Description

This presentation will explain in detail the process of addiction for all – the user (substance abuser,) and their adult and child family members – emphasizing similarities and connections. Codependency, enabling and detachment will be examined within the context of the addiction process. Ways in which children are impacted by addiction will be given special attention. Addiction treatment methods and resources used to support, empower and educate families to break the cycle of addiction will be reviewed.

About Kristine Hitchens
- Kristine has 15 years' experience as a counselor and director, and has been at Father Martin's Ashley since 1998. She has a B.A. in psychology from Wesley College, a master’s degree in Social Work from Widener University, and is a Ph.D. candidate (A.B.D.) at Bryn Mawr College. Her licenses are LCSW-C and LCADC, with a CCDC certification.

About The Kolmac School
- Kolmac School Programming includes presentations on topics addressing substance abuse, substance abuse treatment programs and addiction treatment programs. The Kolmac School is run by the Kolmac Clinic with outpatient drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation centers in Maryland (Columbia, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Towson,) and Washington, D.C.

- To register for this event, please fill out the registration form
- Presentation open to treatment professionals and referral sources
- Cost is free and lunch will be served
- This program will yield 1.5 hours of Category II continuing education for Maryland social workers
- This program has been approved for 1.5 CEU's by the District of Columbia Certification Board for Professional Alcohol and Drug Counselors
- This CE Program has been approved by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists for Category A
